Students and staff at Wembley Elementary School (WES) may hear some construction noise this week as their new playground is installed.
This week, Blue Imp, a Canadian playground manufacturer, will be at WES installing the new playground. Principal Ms. Robyn Lieverse says everyone is excited about the new equipment. “The old playground was 40 years old, so our students are very happy to get an upgraded play structure.” The Wembley Community Society has been fundraising to purchase a new playground for several years and WES would like to express their extreme gratitude to everyone who has worked so hard for this moment.
The new playground, which cost $148,000, was funded by the Wembley Community Society and donations from the County of Grande Prairie and Strathcona Resources Ltd., formerly Pipestone Energy. The Wembley Community Society continues to be busy fundraising for a replacement of the larger playground, which will cost approximately $400,000. “We greatly appreciate the Wembley Community Society and their efforts to provide our students with a new playground that fosters physical activity, social interaction, and overall well-being,” says Ms. Lieverse. WES would also like to thank Half a Dime Contracting for volunteering their time and equipment to remove the old playground and Sunbelt Oilfield Rentals for donating the fencing.
